Why do so many take-out/order-out places emphasize on big food, and more of it?

Have you seen Domino's new Bread Bowls? Order it online, and you get a free chocolate crunch cake. What about McDonald's new third-pounder burger? Was a quarter-pound of meat not enough? This doesn't fit in, but Saladworks would seem like the one safe place. Whenever you ask for a salad, you get a very large one and it is drenched with dressing by use of a ladle. Even Subway has been lulled to the dark side. They now sell Philly Cheesesteaks (fortunately for a limited time). At this point, more meat may just end up killing you.

I'm not complaining, but what is the need for all of this? Dominos can't seem to sell pizza on whole-wheat dough, but they can turn a pizza into a bowl. I know that it's a ridiculous idea to even attempt to live on take-out, but very few of these chains are showing themselves health conscious. Wouldn't it be something if people only bought the healthier side of the menu? Why do so many take-out/order-out places emphasize on big food, and more of it?
It is economics. People buy fattening food so restaurants make fattening food. It is the people driving the market, not the restaurants. You can't change the market by changing the restaurants. You have to change it by changing the people. Trust me if people change their buying habits the restaurants will rush to change their menus. There is also the fact that preparing healthy food is more expensive than throwing together and frying fattening food. If you want to be a multibillionaire just figure out how to make something that tastes like it is filled with fat but is healthy for you and cheap to produce. The world is waiting.

As for your additional comments. Of course you already know the answer. So WHY did you ask the question in the first place?
Well it's also part of the our generation where money is more disposable and food is more available. We're also part of a very large population of obese people which can contribute to having bigger servings of food. In my experience, I'm not overweight, but sometimes I tend to buy the bigger item just to eat it all up and enjoy all of it without regard of the fat in it and thinking that I can just run it off..Why do so many take-out/order-out places emphasize on big food, and more of it?
yeah ik!!!!!! i hate fast food places and on commercials and stuff they say that they have healthier stuff like taco bell they have a big sign in the restaurant and i cant take it...and then ppl wonder why america is the fattest country in the world hmmm i wonder why...maybe its because we r being poisoned by fast food places and being lazy bums!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
More Food= More MoneyWhy do so many take-out/order-out places emphasize on big food, and more of it?
if they keep selling you all of this food they get more money. and if dominoes gives you a free cake and you like it, next time you go there and that offer for the free one is gone, you will buy the cake. and they sell all of the meat because people will eat it. you can see by the obesity rate in this country that people will buy all of that food because they like it and they dont care that it is killing them. or, since these places in their commercials say that their food is healthy, people believe it. it is rediculous i know and i think that they should start selling actual healthy food but for now they just want money.
